The LHCG is planning a coach trip to Barnard Castle on Saturday, 10th September 2022. The cost is £25 per person, which will cover the return trip. There are a number of notable places to visit, which may require a separate entrance fee, such as the Bowes Museum (in photo) and the castle itself, as well as a number of local shops and some nice cafes to have lunch.

Description

Leaving at 9:00am, the coach is expecting to arrive around 11:00am, with a drop off at Bowes Museum before heading into the town, where you can just wander around to check out the independent local shops, cafes and occasional pub.

There are a few notable places of interest:

  • Barnard Castle itself, dating back to the 12th & 13th centuries
    (Entrance fee not included, but it is free for English Heritage members)
  • The Bowes Museum, regarded as one of the finest museums outside London with an internationally renowned art collection
    (Entrance fee not included and it's a 1km / ¾ miles from the town centre, approx. 15 mins walk)
  • The Butter Mart, on the main street

The coach plans to leave at 3:00pm, returning around 5:00pm.

Risk Assessment

A day trip for residents, family & friends by private coach to the town of Barnard Castle. No events, tours, activities or refreshments will be provided for their time in the town. Drop-off and pick-up points will be in a suitable public car park in the town centre at Bowes Museum.

A fund-raising raffle will be held as part of the excursion.
