How to replace the battery in the smoke alarm

Most, if not all, of the apartments in Leetham House are fitted with the same smoke alarms, as shown below. Approximately every 5 years, you may find that they will start beeping every few minutes, which usually means that the battery inside them needs replacing.

Smoke alarmWhen replacing the battery, the first thing to note are the instructions at the side of the cover, especially the part about the screwdriver. You will need a flat head screwdriver to remove the cover.

InstructionsIt may require a bit of patience but, as the instructions say, you will need to use the screwdriver to push into the slot and, at the same time, push the cover away from you.

Removing the coverOnce you have removed the cover, you just need to replace the battery with a 9 volt (6LR61) battery.

Replacing the battery
After you have replaced the battery, simply re-attach the cover by sliding it onto the fitting attached to the ceiling. In theory, it should stop beeping and, hopefully, will not need replacing again for another 5 years!
